Overview of the Urinary system
The urinary system consists of the kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, and urethra. It also maintains the homeostasis of water, pH, ions, and red blood cells.
aNATOMY OF THE URINARY SYSTEM
Urinary System of the Lower Torso:
Kidneys- Located along the posterior muscular wall of the abdominal cavity, the kidneys filter and dispose waste in the body.
Penis- The external male sex organ, the penis contains the urethra, which assists in urination.
Prostate- Located only in men, urine passes through the prostate.
Ureter- One of two urine tubes, the ureter carries urine from the kidneys to the bladder.
Urethra- A tube that carries urine from the bladder, the urethral contains mucous glands that secrete mucus into the urethral canal.
Urinary Bladder- A hollow elastic organ, the bladder stores urine.
Vagina- A muscular tube that connects the cervix of the uterus to the vulva and the exterior of the body.
