I have decided to create a website including information about the human body and the medical language that is incorporated within the medicine field for the Twenty Percent Project (20% Project). This information is a collaboration of the content from the Anatomy & Physiology and Medical Terminology courses at Yorktown High School. The drive and motivation for this project is the desire to become a physician one day, considering the fact that there has been a major decline in medical professionals throughout the United States (U.S). I also prefer to stay on topic throughout a class in order to maintain appropriate brain capacity for that content, which is what this website will allow me to accomplish.
The 20% Project has led me to think in ways that I did not find possible in my mindset. I am a kinesthetic learner, meaning I learn best while listening to lecture, taking notes from PowerPoints, and creating flashcards as a study tool for tests. Writing, although not my favorite activity, describes my learning style in a nutshell. This concept of the 20% Project allows students to use their minds of creativeness and experimentation to choose a topic of interest, but that is not how my brain normally functions. I am left brain dominant, which again enforces the kinesthetic learning and lack of creativity, which led to serious issues in choosing a project domain. The process in finding a topic that has endless options was tedious, frustrating, and tiresome because I wanted to stay on the class subject.
Although the 20% Project had its downfalls for me, it also has its perks. My project will include the topics and information that I find most interesting. Once finding the idea mentioned above, everything became that much easier. I love learning about the human body and the many important processes that it maintains for our survival. My brain likes to remain on topic once in a class, therefore keeping on track with the medical language and how it is used throughout anatomy and physiology during a Medical Terminology class project, I gained interest. I also believe that this product will be a success because of my incomprehensible organization skills and antics. The neatness and clarity of production will exceed expectations due to these said characteristics.
This project had its downfalls and its setbacks, but the final product and outcome will be a success. I cannot wait to see how the final website turns out!
